Final Model
Here we have some images of the final phonebooth model created by my team. It is full scale, and operates very similarly to the earlier cardboard prototypes we tested. However, due to the weight of the wood and the stretch in the paracord rope, the pulley mechanism does not work properly, requiring us to "lock … Continue reading Final Model
Manufacturing Process
Here we have a few photos of the manufacturing process used to create our final model. Wood pieces were CNC'd out of Hard Maple plywood to begin. All proportions were based on the Solidworks model shown earlier. After the wood was cut out, all sharp edges were routed with a 1/4" curved bit out the … Continue reading Manufacturing Process
Keyshot Renderings
These are the renderings I created in Keyshot based off the Solidworks model. The materials are extremely close to those we plan to use in our final model; I think this is a good representation of the final product overall.
Solidworks Model
Here is the final Solidworks model I developed to serve as both a mechanical proof of concept and a cutting template for the CNC. I had to make a large number of adjustments to the overall proportions and design to get the model to fold flat in Solidworks, but after hours of tinkering I was … Continue reading Solidworks Model
User Testing
Here are some photos of user-testing performed in the basement of the 18th Ave Library. We interviewed about 13 different library goers, receiving a variety of well thought out feedback in response. People were generally excited about the idea, and thought our solution could work well to solve the issue of taking phone calls in … Continue reading User Testing
Full-Scale Prototype
The full scale model features slightly modified proportions when compared to the half-scale model previously shown. These modifications were made to make the inside of the phonebooth feel more spacious and roomy, while also providing adequate headspace and coverage for a wide-range of users.
Half – Scale Prototype
Based largely on the pop-up prototype seen in earlier images, this half scale model functions as intended, folding flat when not in use, and popping out via a pulley mechanism when needed.
Secondary Phonebooth Prototypes
Above you'll see the second round of prototypes I created for the phonebooth project. They are loosely based on the first round of ideas, with some improvements and modifications made to improve the dynamic function of most of the designs. The pop-up design on the far right seems to be the direction our group is … Continue reading Secondary Phonebooth Prototypes
First Phonebooth Prototypes
Above you'll see a compilation of early prototypes I constructed to help visualize initial ideas I had to tackle the library phonebooth design problem. These concepts are rough at best, but helped me to explore the very first ideas that came to my head, some of which are simple, fairly-mild takes on the original phonebooth. … Continue reading First Phonebooth Prototypes
